Job Description

The Engineer I, Chemical Process is responsible for supporting chemical process scale up and supporting IQ / OQ / PQ validation for installation of new equipment and processes. This individual will be responsible for applying solid chemical engineering principles and models (reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, heat & mass transfer, and mixing effects) to efficiently evaluate and develop robust and hygienic processes. The engineer is expected to support experts in automation & control and process analytical technology to deliver a world class vertically integrated manufacturing operation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assists in the development of short-range process control plans (e.g. troubleshooting emergency breakdowns, upgrading engineering safety controls, searching for appropriate technology to address automation needs & modeling and simulation software etc.) + Assist in the development of tools and technology design basis to sustain existing technologies, and innovate new technology in support of manufacturing, R&D, Nursery & Cultivation + Develop selection criteria and performance specifications for equipment and systems required to meet project requirements + Supports the operation of process systems (e.g. extraction, distillation and cryogenics) within buildings are setup efficiently and within hazardous area code requirements + Develop and implement actions to continually improve equipment performance, lower operating costs, increase the quality of operations, and drive energy and waste reduction + Develop process understanding using design of experiments to determine solvent exchange, kinetics and reactions + Maintain and expand knowledge of the following systems: HMI, Historian, DCS, and PLC base control systems + Partner with manufacturing, R&D, Nursery & Cultivation to translate process requirements into process engineering deliverables + Prepare purchase requisitions in order to request any material and supplies such as tools, equipment and replacement parts + Interfaces with vendors and suppliers as necessary to discuss products used in repair work and/or projects that need to be completed + Researches new products, laws, regulations, etc. related to cannabis controls, for the purpose of recommending efficient purchases and increased workflow efficiency + Develop suitable operational technology to interface with IT including processing historian, SCADA systems & mobile SAAS solutions + Develop a SWOT Profile on critical processes and train customers (plant technicians, operators, and managers) on functionality and operation of new and improved systems + Assists with the generation of technical documentation such as design drawings, P&IDs, DFMEA, verification test procedures and test reports per FDA design controls + Willingness to learn Six Sigma practices including Root Cause Analysis, SPC, and Design of Experiments, etc. + Bring new ways of working to the Engineering community in our continued quest of value engineering while living our core values + Participates in establishing company-wide best practices and standards for process engineering and is responsible for ensuring compliance at local site. Leads the development of the plant masterplan for process systems, workflows, and automation. + Prepare process design and equipment specifications, design review of design documents and leads the construction, commissioning, & start-up activities at plant facilities.
