The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership for the design, construction, and validation of manufacturing systems. This individual shall apply engineering principles and techniques including fluid mechanics, heat transfer and strength of materials to cryogenic systems, extraction systems, packaging machinery, and packaging components.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Develops long and short-range plans for all mechanical systems (e.g. troubleshooting emergency breakdowns, upgrading engineering controls, searching for appropriate technology to address automation needs & modeling and simulation software, etc.)
+ Oversees the operation of systems (e.g. HVAC, mechanical systems, fire/life safety, security systems) within buildings are setup efficiently and within code requirements
+ Develop and implement actions to continually improve equipment performance, lower operating costs, increase the quality of operations, and drive energy and waste reduction
+ Develop selection criteria and performance specifications for equipment and systems required to meet project requirements
+ Maintain and expand knowledge of the following systems: HMI, Cryogenic, vacuum, & compressed air utility systems
+ Partner with manufacturing, R&D, cultivation to translate process requirements into systems engineering deliverables
+ Prepare purchase requisitions in order to request any material and supplies such as tools, equipment and replacement parts
+ Prepare mechanical design and equipment specifications, design review of design documents and leads the construction, commissioning, & start-up activities at plant facilities. Projects must limit manufacturing disruption and shall be completed on time and within budget.
+ Interfaces with vendors and suppliers as necessary to discuss products used in repair work and/or projects that need to be completed
+ Researches new products, laws, regulations, etc. related to cannabis controls, for the purpose of recommending efficient purchases and increased workflow efficiency
+ Search new applicable technology both within and outside our industry to continuously evaluate best practices and deliver effective solutions
+ Identify and solve potential issues with scaling up through system experimentation, observation, and data analysis
+ Develop a SWOT Profile on critical processes and train customers (plant technicians, operators, and managers) on functionality and operation of new and improved systems
+ Demonstrated experience developing POP and generating technical documentation such as design drawings, DFMEA, verification test procedures and test reports per FDA design controls
+ Experience with Six Sigma practices including Root Cause Analysis, SPC, and Design of Experiments, etc.
+ Ability to present technologies and status of development projects to management and stakeholders
+ Demonstrated record of making critical decisions that positively impact the course of the organization
+ Bring new ways of working to the Engineering community in our continued quest of value engineering while living our core values
+ Participates in establishing company-wide best practices and standards for mechanical engineering and is responsible for ensuring compliance at local site. Leads the development for a deep understanding of packaging machinery and component cost savings while maintaining the value equation
+ Determine best mix of component cost and tooling cost to support forecast growth and weekly production plans. This includes all corrugated, plastics, glass, fiber board cartons, caps, labels, and films
+ Work with manufacturing to establish AQLs for packaging automation projects
+ Responsible for calculating the capacity and required number of packaging lines / automation level to meet demands and service needs
+ In addition to PM roles and responsibilities, you will be assigned as the Subject Matter Expert, for all mechanical and automation scope on projects. This includes prioritizing and making the business case as well as developing V-curves to de-bottleneck packaging automation projects
+ Develop robust bid comparisons for capital equipment recommendation with a keen eye on TCO

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science, Packaging Engineering or related field
+ 5 years related work experience in engineering, maintenance and operations
+ Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science, Packaging Engineering or related field
+ Proven success working in a fast-paced start up environment
+ 7+ years of work experience in manufacturing (preferably in medical device, chemical, aerosol, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical industry)
+ Previous experience working in a Lean environment
+ Six Sigma green or Black Belt Certification

Primarily in a warehouse environment. Will be expected to travel as needed. Periodic work on off shifts may be required to support your projects.
