Job Description

Summary: The Data Analyst will work on research studies within the VA Puget Sound Center of Excellence in Substance Addiction Treatment and Education (CESATE) and will aid in research development, data collection, data management, data analysis and other activities to carry out CESATE research program goals. The primary responsibilities of the Data Analyst will be to work within a multidisciplinary research team to manage the extraction, cleaning, and derivation of variables from large administrative databases (i.e. VA electronic medical records, Medicare, and National Death Index) and to perform preliminary analyses related to the NIDA funded study, "Impact of medical and recreational marijuana laws on cannabis, opioids and psychiatric medications: National study of VA patients, 2000 andndash; 2024". This position will require an individual who understands the principles of scientific investigations, possesses data management and analytical skills, and has experience working with large administrative databases. The candidate must possess strong scientific, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills. A BA/BS or higher in statistics or a related field is required (MS is ideal); a degree and/or experience in scientific research-related field is ideal. The position is part-time, with potential to receive additional salary funding from other related resources to be full-time. The salary is based on the applicant's experience and includes benefits. Responsibilities: *Develop procedures and manage acquisition of study data, working closely with local and remote study staff to obtain appropriate data through the VA Data Access Request Tracker (DART). *Regularly communicate with data stewards at VA Informatics and Computing Infrastructure (VINCI) to gain access to appropriate data sources, maintain project files, and transfer of clean datasets to national research partners. *Query and extract large datasets from VA electronic medical records using relational database tools. *Manage data architecture for study data and integrate data from multiple electronic file sources in compliance with local and national regulations. *Clean and cross-check data for preparation of analytical files. *Maintain secure andldquo;crosswalkandrdquo; files. *Maintain comprehensive data dictionaries. *Regularly consult with a national research team regarding VA data elements, data structure and additional data needs. *Conduct statistical analysis to cross validate datasets with the national research team. *Uphold data security regulations and maintain compliance with human subject approvals. *Establish necessary collaborations with other research and/or administrative staff and maintain working relationships with colleagues. *Provide regular reports to PI and/or Project Director, attend supervision meetings, and attend research team meetings, discuss study progress, identify problems and recommending solutions. *Assist with grant submissions, including preparing applications, conducting preliminary analyses, and other tasks as needed. *Maintain computer access, required trainings. *Perform other related duties as required. Position Requirements: *A BA/BS or higher in statistics or a related field is required (MS is ideal); a degree and/or experience in scientific research-related field is ideal. *Experience using data management (SQL Server) and statistical software packages (SAS, Stata or R). *Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills as well as interpersonal and communication skills *Ability to multi-task *Works well with a team and independently *Motivated to be involved in research activities *Knowledge of research compliance regulations *Experience using the Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access
