Trinity CountyEmployment OpportunityPLANNING DEPARTMENT CANNABIS DIVISIONCODE COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST I$3,767.42 - $4,579.33 / Monthly$21.73 - $26.41 / HourORCODE COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST II$4,161.58 - $5,058.42 / Monthly$24.00 - $29.18 / HourThis is a full time, benefitted positionApplications will be accepted until the position is filled.CODE COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST IDefinition:Under general direction, to assist the Code Compliance Specialist II of the Building and Development Services with compliance with sections of the County Code, ordinances and resolutions in such areas of planning, zoning, community nuisance, and related areas, and performs related work as required.Qualifications:Knowledge of:Practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the general construction trades. Accepted safety standards and methods of building construction. Qualities of various construction materials. Building and related codes and ordinances enforceable by the County. Principles of mathematics related to the building trades. Inspection methods and procedures. County code compliance policies. Trinity County Zoning Ordinance including, but not limited to, prohibited uses, pool regulations, cannabis policies, fence heights and locations, setbacks, and lot sizes.Ability to:Enforce regulations with firmness and tact. Prepare clear and concise reports. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Use initiative and independent judgment to determine if a violation exists and the appropriate follow up action to take place. Conduct follow-up investigations to ensure that violations are corrected. Gain voluntary cooperation of the citizen against whom the enforcement action is being taken in order to determine whether a violation has taken place. Enforce County codes through the use of an appropriate level of explanation and presence of authority in order to gain agreements on compliance deadlines and avoid court action. Operate a PC to access information in order to conduct research and create and maintain accurate public records. Read and use County maps, property descriptions, construction plans, and other related plans and drawings to ensure compliance with code requirements. Work with supervision in prioritizing work by choosing among and scheduling such tasks as the following: responding promptly to citizen complaints and collecting evidence for compliance. Issue stop work orders for sign installations and/or construction that does not have the necessary permits or inspections.Training and Experience:Any combination of training and experience, which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:One (1) year of building inspection experience comparable to that of a Building Inspector II with Trinity County.ORGraduation from high school or GED. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to good (2-3 years) work experience associated with city/county planning or zoning enforcement; such as investigating zoning and sign codes, municipal codes, and environmental ordinance violations. Extensive (5+ years) public contact experience in dealing effectively with the general public and business organizations.Special Requirements:Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driveris License. Possession of an International Code Council (ICC) Residential Building Inspector Certification, California Association of Code Enforcement Specialists (CACEO) Code Enforcement Specialist Certification. (May be obtained within 2 years during employment with Trinity County). Experience with a personal computer (PC) is also preferred.Typical Physical Requirements:Sit for extended periods. Frequently stand and walk. Ability to walk in uneven terrain and on slippery surfaces. Normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Ability to crawl through various areas requiring movement on hands and knees. Ability to climb, s
