Looking to craft new delivery systems for the development of innovative nicotine reduced risk products for a Fortune 200 Company with some of the most iconic brands? If you have an advanced degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related field and are a specialist in formulation science, we want to speak with you! We are currently looking for a Principal Scientist I, Formulation Delivery to join our Controlled Release and Delivery Technology team in Richmond, VA. In this role, you will translate the science and technologies into FDA-authorized products to support our 10-year vision to responsibly lead the transition of adult smokers 21+ to a non-combustible future. What you will be doing: + Driving development of novel delivery technologies/formulations that can be incorporated into new product formats. + Providing directions on applying methodologies for achieving desired release profiles. + Employing an approach that incorporates adult consumer 21+ requirements, regulatory pathway considerations and scale-up potential, across the product development lifecycle. + Working closely with internal partners, including research, analytical and physical characterization, pre-clinical, clinical, process engineering and regulatory teams, to assess new technologies and generate data and insights that guide the product development. + Identifying and establishing co-development partnerships with external researchers and partners, who are at the forefront of controlled release and delivery technologies. + Building lab scale capabilities; working with partners to develop prototypes across all stages of product development. + Mentoring and directing the work of junior scientists on the team. + Driving due diligence of traditional and evolving delivery technologies and making technical and strategic recommendations to management. + Improving company’s external engagement and competitive advantage through patents, publications, presentations and participation in scientific organizations. We want you to have: + Advanced degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related engineering or scientific subject area. + 7+ years of experience in food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, oral nicotine products or similar industries. + Demonstrated expertise in working with multi-functional teams that integrate traditional and novel delivery systems to build innovative products that achieve controlled release and targeted delivery profiles. + In-depth knowledge of multiple areas of formulation science and the vision to leverage synergistic/antagonistic effects across these areas during product development (e.g. administration route, release mechanisms, physical/organic chemistry properties of materials, ingredients and matrices, physiological interactions, etc.). + Confirmed ability to synthesize information from scientific subject areas to generate insights to guide product design and development - Analytical & physical characterization, in-vitro & in-vivo model systems, PBPK modeling, sensory psychophysiology, consumer research, etc. + Experience in product stewardship principles and FDA regulations. + Outstanding colleague who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has a track record of patents, publications and scientific/regulatory engagements.
